Ο Σκότ Χέρινγκτον έδωσε
μάλιστα το υλικό όχι μόνο στην αστυνομία αλλά και στη δημοσιότητα. Τα τοπικά
μέσα ενημέρωσης ανέλαβαν πρόθυμα ρόλο βοηθό σερίφη στο πρωτόγνωρο
ανθρωποκυνηγητό αναμεταδίδοντας εικόνες και ρεπορτάζ για το θέμα.
Η λεία περιελάμβανε εκτός
από τα κλασσικά μετρητά -χρυσαφικά μια συλλογή με νομίσματα που ανήκε στον 10χρονο
γιο της οικογένειας.
Το αγόρι βρέθηκε μάλιστα
μόνο του γυρίζοντας από το σχολείο την ίδια μέρα. Η σκέψη από μόνη της ότι θα
μπορούσε η κλοπή να είχε συμβεί νωρίτερα έχει τρομοκρατήσει τη γειτονιά.

INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 2, 2014) – A home burglary victim hopes
somebody will recognize pictures and video of the man who broke into his house
on the east side of Indianapolis.
Scott Herrington says he and his family were away from home in the 1800
block of Bazil Avenue most of Monday. When his wife arrived back at the house
that afternoon, she noticed a window air conditioner unit had been moved. Scott
started looking through his home surveillance video and saw the reason for the
moved air conditioner unit.
In the video, a white male in his 20s is seen approaching the front door
on foot around 1 p.m. Monday. While appearing to talk on his cell phone, the
man rings the doorbell, then knocks on the front door. Seconds later, he starts
looking into windows around the house. A camera on the other side of the house
shows the man shoving the air conditioner unit into the house, then climbing in
after it.
After a short time in the house, the burglar is seen leaving with a
backpack belonging to Herrington’s 10-year-old son. A valuable coin collection
and some cash were missing from the home, presumably in the backpack.
The burglary happened just a few hours after Herrington’s son had been
allowed to stay home alone for about 15 minutes.
“It makes me sick to my stomach to know the same day, four hours later,
a stranger was in my house.”
Herrington and other neighbors also want to know if the man in the video
could be connected to a rash of break-ins on Bazil Avenue. Four doors down from
Herrington, a woman told FOX59 she is still afraid to spend the night in her
house after two burglaries in the last three months.
“I’ve been staying at friend’s house,” she said. “My son’s house, my
friend’s house. Because I just don’t feel safe at night.”
Others down the street wonder if the trouble could be connected to
several men who have recently been going door to door offering tree and lawn
services. Herrington was hoping to share his video with his neighbors to see if
any of them recognize the man.
Indianapolis police responded to Herrington’s call Monday. The case
is under investigation.
